1988 (#21) - Stephen's job offer and moving with Beth to Paris

Concerned about the stability of her marriage, which has already been put to the test by the rapprochement between Eric and Beth, Stephanie fears that the discovery of Angela's truth could mark the definitive breakup. If, in fact, Angela's discovery can represent a moment of rapprochement for the whole family, on the other hand, Eric's incredulity and dismay remain, almost unable to recognize the woman he married. Determined in every way to avoid a rapprochement between Eric and Beth, Stephanie convinces herself that the only way to avoid this is to remove the woman from Los Angeles; and to do so, she turns to her friend Bill, asking him to hire her husband Stephen and transfer him to one of his divisions far from Los Angeles. At the man's words about the fact that an important position in Europe, in Paris, has just opened up, Stephanie doesn't seem to believe her ears; and in order to convince Bill to offer that position to Stephen, she offers to help pay his salary. Bill, who has always had a special relationship with the woman, does not object to the request, and contacts Stephen to offer him the job. And Stephen, who had hoped to find a job to prove to his family that he was capable of returning to his role as head of the family, immediately accepted the generous offer. At this point, all that remained was to convince Beth to leave with him for Paris; a task that Eric himself unconsciously contributes to achieving by admitting to the woman that, for the sake of his own family, destiny once again seems to want to keep them apart. These words deeply affect the woman, so much so that she accepts Stephanie's advice to follow Stephen to Paris so that they can rebuild their lives together. When Beth confides to Stephen that she wants to move to France with him, the man cannot believe her words and, full of joy, promises the woman that he will not regret it, this step being the first of their second life. And so, under the satisfied and somewhat disconsolate eyes of Eric, who sees the same bitterness in Beth's eyes, the couple leaves for Paris, ready to start a new life.
