1989 (#18) - Stephanie's discovery, murderous madness and Deveney's escape

Increasingly struck by the misfortune but also by the strength of mind that Deveney shows, Thorne takes her case to heart and decides to help her live a better life. In agreement with Stephanie, therefore, he decides to give her happiness again by paying for a plastic surgery operation able to reconstruct a new face for the girl, who is happy to remove from her face the scars that she also bears within herself. What Deveney doesn't suspect, however, is that this gesture of benevolence will also turn into her ruin. In fact, just when Deveney is beginning to appreciate the Forrester family, and to change his mind about them, Stephanie accidentally discovers the whole truth. During a meeting with Dr. Bernard Schnell, who will perform the surgery, he asks Stephanie for a current photo of Deveney, so that he can simulate his face without the after-effects of the accident through a photographic reconstruction procedure and, therefore, try to stick as closely as possible to recreate a familiar face in Deveney. However, neither Thorne nor Stephanie can imagine what they are about to see: the reconstruction of Deveney's face is identical in every way to the face of the con artist Angela! Meanwhile, Deveney, feeling that they could expose her at any moment, decides to put her plan into action despite her infatuation with Thorne. Deveney begins drugging the man with the intention of recreating the exact same scene in which Thorne shot his brother, this time with the intent of fatally wounding him. Determined to put her plan into action, Deveney then begins pouring drugs into his drinks and repeating in his head that Ridge slept with Caroline. And so, while Ridge runs to Thorne to warn him of the danger, Deveney puts a gun in the hands of the man, now completely out of touch with reality. As soon as he enters Thorne's house, a frightened Ridge watches helplessly as his brother waves the gun at him uncontrollably; however, Ridge manages to bring the man back to his senses by getting him to remember his actions and revealing that it was he who shot him. Suddenly back to reality, a repentant and shocked Thorne immediately throws away the gun and hugs his brother, tearfully apologizing for what he had done. Unfortunately, when the police accompanied by Stephanie arrive, Deveney has already lost track of him again. Stephanie and Eric are, however, happy to have regained family unity and the reacquaintance between Ridge and Thorne. In spite of this, however, with the passing of time, the aftermath of Deveney does not fail to make itself felt and between the two brothers grows more and more a deep rift that will never really heal.

1989 (#14) - Deveney's desire for revenge and infatuation with Thorne

Immediately after the car accident with Todd, a bystander rescued Deveney from the wreckage. But before help arrived, Deveney had brutally killed her own rescuer with a boulder and, after dragging her into the car, had blown it up along with Todd's body, in such a way as to make it appear that she was the dead woman. For a long time hovering between life and death, she finally saves herself by waking up from her coma state. However, this episode does not leave the woman without consequences, as she was completely disfigured by the explosion. Released from the hospital a few months later, an unrecognizable Deveney goes to Los Angeles with a single goal: to take revenge on the Forrester family. In her crazy mind, in fact, Deveney considers Stephanie the only one responsible for all her misadventures and is determined to punish her by taking away what she has most precious, her son Ridge, who has always been suspicious of her. But if the crazy plan is to kill Ridge, Deveney does not intend to stain herself with blood at all; it would have been Thorne, in fact, to do so, convinced that her brother's hatred towards Ridge has never really gone away and is only latent waiting to be unleashed again. Thorne, meanwhile, is facing a difficult time following his divorce with Caroline and finds a great friend in Donna. In order to keep in touch with Thorne, Deveney is hired by Sally as a presenter, announcer and spokesperson for Spectra, and succeeds in the auditions to win over the much better prepared Fawn Cumberland, who is locked by Deveney in the dressing room right at the moment of her test. In the meantime, Deveney spends a lot of time with the man, discovering a sweet and unexpected side of him; for the first time, in fact, Deveney feels that a man genuinely cares about her and ends up starting to have feelings for him. However, Deveney doesn't understand that Thorne doesn't really have any loving feelings for her and that, rather, the guy feels a genuine and sincere compassion for the woman, forced to live with the signs of the accident. Thorne himself, however, is meanwhile getting very close to Donna; and their dating only makes Deveney jealous, who in her crazy mind begins to feel betrayed by Thorne.

1989 (#6) - Deveney's revelation, escape with Todd and tragic car accident

Overjoyed by the news of Angela's awakening and thrilled to meet her, Eric and Ridge insist that Angela leave the clinic and return to stay with them, first, of course, going through a hospital stay that would be better able to handle this initial period of rehabilitation. Suspicions of deception, especially on Ridge's part, arrive when he notices a cigarette butt in Angela's room; an embarrassing situation that Todd nips in the bud by admitting to having started smoking and apologizing for the incident; but it is especially when Angela shows incredible and sudden signs of improvement, and declares herself against hospitalization, that even Stephanie realizes she has been cheated. Deveney then, realizing that she has been discovered, reveals her identity and threatens Stephanie warning her that if she reports her she will reveal to the police that it was Thorne who shot Ridge; a secret that Deveney overhears in one of the many moments of confidence between Stephanie and Todd. Soon, Deveney and Todd are handed $150,000 by Eric and Stephanie, before fleeing, intent on enjoying the rest of their lives together. Feeling foolish for having believed Todd's lies and ashamed for having been cheated in such a way, the couple decides to put the incident behind them by telling the family that Angela was dead. But when Ridge, who has always suspected everything, comes across a Deveney who is about to leave and is intent on withdrawing all the cash she can from the bank counter, he understands perfectly what has happened. The boy tries to chase her and tries unsuccessfully to reach her, but the woman, with Todd waiting for her in the car, manages to escape. Eric and Stephanie, convinced by Ridge that he has no intention of letting the two impostors get away with it, decide to report the incident to the police, who circulate their mug shots all over the state. And just a few days later, the shocking news: following a tragic car accident, two charred bodies were found in the wreckage of their car, initially unidentified but later attributed to them: Angela and Todd are dead.

1989 (#4) - Todd's lies and the charade of Angela's coma

Now that everyone has discovered Angela's existence and it is no longer necessary to keep her locked up in the private clinic in Santa Monica, Stephanie insists to Todd that she be transferred to the Forrester house, where she would receive even more care and attention. What Stephanie doesn't know, however, is that "Angela" is not really her daughter. The real Angela, in fact, died years earlier due to a strange and unbelievable tragedy, caused by Todd who, during a walk with Agela, forgot to lock the brakes on the girl's wheelchair and caused her to plunge down a hill and crash into a tree. After days in intensive care, Angela died from her injuries and her already weak and partly compromised health. Todd at the time of the incident had told Stephanie about the accident, but reassured her that she had survived and needed plastic surgery. In reality, Todd had lied by hiring a con artist named Deveney Dixon to play poor Angela during Stephanie's weekly visits; all so that he could continue to see the woman, with whom he is secretly in love, and more importantly continue to collect and receive the monthly fee that Stephanie punctually pays to the clinic for Angela's hospitalization, in addition to all the various donations that he never fails to make. However, now that "Angela" would have to move in with the Forresters, Deveney would have to play the role of a woman in a vegetative state all the time. Angela and Todd, thus, come up with the idea of a "miracle." During one of Stephanie's visits, Angela slowly moves her hand and makes the woman jump for joy. She can't believe her eyes and the whole Forrester Family is happy for the girl's awakening.

1988 (#17) - Stephanie's secret, the meetings with Todd and the discovery of Angela

Manipulating people and trying to keep everything under her control, as it happens with the Logans or as it happened in the episode of Ridge's injury by Thorne, is not the only dark side of Stephanie. The woman, in fact, keeps a hidden secret that, despite all her attentions, is destined to be revealed soon. Suspicious of his wife's behaviors, who punctually leaves every other afternoon of the week, Eric begins to speculate that the woman has a lover. Determined to find out the truth, Eric hires a private investigator, Dave Harmon, to tail Stephanie and find out where she goes for whole hours of the day. The detective soon informs Eric that Stephanie attends a private clinic in Santa Monica, where she has a room booked for years under her maiden name, Douglas, which turns Eric's suspicions into a fear that his wife may be seriously ill and has not wanted to tell anyone. Determined to find out the truth, Eric decides to take matters into his own hands and go to the clinic himself, determined to confront Stephanie and her second life. After entering the facility in search of his wife, a distraught Stephanie catches up with him and tries to send him away, but the man immediately goes to Dr. Todd Powell, who is taking care of her, seeking clarification. Eventually, despite Stephanie even going so far as to lie about her and Todd having a secret relationship, Eric manages to break into the room making a shocking discovery. On a hospital bed, attached to the machines that keep her alive probably in a deep coma state, there is a young woman with a familiar face. Stephanie, at this point, is forced to confess the truth to a dismayed Eric: the girl is none other than Angela, their daughter that Stephanie had made everyone believe had died after birth. Stephanie admits to a speechless Eric that she, too, has only known for a few years that Angela was actually taken away from them in secret after her birth by some doctors, who made them believe she was dead; all in order to study and subject the little girl to some experiments aimed at studying the girl's rare microcephaly. As stunned as he was when she learned the truth through her friend and doctor Todd Powell, Stephanie was able to see her daughter again, kept alive and in secret at this facility only thanks to large sums of dirty money donated to the center in the form of donations. Stephanie admits that she was forced into silence by the hospital's management, partly because she wanted to spare Eric the pain of seeing his daughter reduced to a vegetable. Devastated by his wife's words, Eric is disgusted by Stephanie's lies but happy to be able to find his sweet Angela, the daughter he always wanted to know. In the end, Eric decides for the good of the family to forgive Stephanie and, at the same time, to denounce the hospital that keeps Angela in care. This, meanwhile, is revealed to the general amazement of the whole family, incredulous but overjoyed to be able to welcome and re-embrace their beloved Angela.
